Morning Composition

Lots to do. LOTS to do….
So… let’s get started….

Woke up with a song. Or… a melody….
Or… a riff….

Got up and worked it out. On guitar. Transposed it to bass.

Here it is….

A simple melody that was composed with modes in mind….
It was conceived in E minor… starting on the vith tone of the G major key… and going from there….

Then… we extended the bass line… and explored some other starting points… some other modes….
Looking for different sonic experiences… within the same key….

This is what we got….

Generally, there are two basic ways to compose: melodically and harmonically.
This clearly demonstrates the melodic approach….

However… we were well aware of the harmonic structure all through the creation of this melody… or riff… and it’s variations….
So… technically… this follows the holistic approach to composing….
And… then… because of the way it is pieced together… assembled… the compositional method is called layering….

But we’ll get to that later….

Some say that the melody is the most important part of any composition….
