Making THE Untitled Lost Love Song

The melody was written over a decade ago….

Not the song we planned to work on today…. Reworked about three others yesterday and today…. Reworked lyrics…. Reworked melody/arrangement…. Got ready to start recording…. Shifted gears….

The first track laid down on Untitled Lost Love Song was a rhythm track using a Fender Stratocaster recorded through an Mox2 Pro interface into an iMac running Garage Band using the Amazing Tweed patch… which is a clean emulation….

The second track was same set-up using Vibrato Verb patch… which was layered over end of first segment….

The third track was same set-up using Classic Drive patch… significant distortion… layered over end of second patch…. Very small amount of lead frillage….

The fourth track switched to a Gibson SG through same set-up using the Chord Burner patch… and was layered over the first segment… taking care to try to get the chord changes lined up….

The fifth track was same set-up as fourth… but with Off Axis patch… lined up with second track….

The sixth track was same set-up as fourth… but with Time to Shred patch… and involved more lead work… lined up with third track….

The seventh track used same set-up, but with Fender Jazz Bass using Sub Station Patch lined up with first track.

The eighth track used same set-up as seventh, but with Crunch Cab patch… layered over second and fifth tracks… and extended beyond guitar work… with some frills, etc….

The ninth track was a Shure SM-58 microphone connected through the Mbox 2 Pro interface using a Shure CP8201 Microphone Impedance Matching Transformer and the Narration Vocal patch…. Somewhat lined up with second track, etc…..

The tenth track was a Rogue Lap Steel guitar tuned C6 and played through the Mbox 2 Pro using Super Fuzz patch… added on at the end… as the bass guitar runs out… just to add some element of surprise….

Today… we were working on staying on time with the tempo… and layering tracks… which REQUIRES staying on tempo….

Doing it the hard way… with no backing tracks to keep the beat… just the click track… which we left on…. OOPS!!!

Laid down the Bass later on in order to leave room for movement and experimentation with the bass lines….

Worked briefly on a synthetic Steinway Grand Piano track intro… but dropped that like it was hot….

ALL of this was recorded organically….

Criticism….

The tempo is not perfect…. But pretty close….

The distorted guitar parts are a bit too loud… and could have… SHOULD have… been edited better….

Click track should have been silenced….

Maybe we can get around to some of the other songs….
